Blue Sky was founded by visionary Captain Christos Kassandrinós. In the same month, the company reached an agreement to purchase a vessel that was exceptionally large by Thassos standards. The ship had a capacity of 150 passengers, while the largest vessel operating on the island at the time could carry only 49. The vessel was purchased from Kalymnos and renamed from Mikros Kosmos 1 to Blue Sky 1.
After undergoing extensive reconstruction in Kalymnos, the vessel arrived in Thassos, redefining the standards of maritime tourism on the island. Blue Sky 1 completed its first official voyage on June 12, 2016, departing from Potos, Thassos.
The company tested the Sunset Cruise route for the first time, operating twice a week from the port of Potos. The route was very well received and showed strong performance.
As part of a strategic growth plan, the company reached an agreement to acquire a competing company based in Limenaria, Thassos, known as Daily Cruise Ionio. The company owned the vessel Ionio, which was subsequently renamed Blue Sky 2.
A full reconstruction of Blue Sky 2 began. The vessel was transformed into the most modern and contemporary daily cruise ship of its kind in Thassos.
The company was significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Operations continued exclusively from the port of Limenaria using the ultra-modern Blue Sky 2, while Blue Sky 1 remained out of service.
The company decided to operate both vessels again, departing from both Potos and Limenaria. Blue Sky 2 returned to service first, followed by Blue Sky 1. During this season, the company introduced the Around the Island route for the first time, which proved to be extremely successful.
The company made the strategic decision to design and construct a new high-speed cruiser, measuring 35 meters in length with a capacity of 300 passengers and a speed protocol of 28 knots. The vessel, to be named Blue Sky 3, was planned to operate routes to Mount Athos, Samothrace, and Lemnos. All designs and licenses were approved; however, the project has been placed on hold for the time being.
The company reached an agreement to charter a brand-new vessel built in 2022, which had not yet completed any commercial voyages. The vessel features a glass-bottom design, allowing passengers to admire the seabed of Thassos. It is 20 meters long and can accommodate up to 129 passengers. The vessel is named E/G–T/R LORETTA and was scheduled to operate cruises from Limenaria, Thassos.
E/G–T/R LORETTA completed its first commercial voyage from Limenaria, Thassos. The company introduced two new routes: a three-hour cruise operating twice a week featuring seabed viewing and swimming stops with LORETTA, and a six-hour Blue Lagoon cruise departing from Skala Kallirachi, operated by E/G–T/R Blue Sky 2.
The company received an official order from the Port Authority prohibiting routes to the south, southeast, and northeast of Thassos due to multiple complaints filed by an unwanted competing company. This restriction affected all cruise companies on the island. As a result, routes such as Around Thassos, Salonikiό, Giola, and Alykes could not be operated, and all cruises were limited to western and northwestern areas.
The company reached an agreement to purchase LORETTA, officially acquiring the vessel. It was renamed Blue Sky 4, and its branding, colors, and insignia were fully updated.
The company carried out a complete reconstruction of its entire fleet, adding upgraded and additional safety equipment to enable all vessels to operate previously restricted and open-sea routes. The process lasted approximately four months, and all vessels received full seaworthiness certification. Blue Sky became the only company on the island whose fleet can operate all routes and access every area of Thassos.
For strategic reasons, the company acquired the competing company Axion Esti. The company was renamed Thassos Cruises Axion Esti, and the vessel was renamed Panagia Axion Esti. For the 2026 season, operations were planned under two commercial brands.
The vessel Panagia Axion Esti will operate new Traditional Trip routes from Limenaria, with departures from 09:00–15:00 and 15:45 until sunset, operating daily from June 1.
The company reached an agreement with another maritime company operating from the Port of Thassos for the chartering of E/G–T/R Blue Sky 2 at a highly favorable rate. For the 2026 and 2027 seasons, the vessel will operate from the Port of Thassos under a different name and branding.
